Alan Kitching Exhibition

AK2

We had the pleasure of working with Alan Kitching at the Typography Workshop to produce the 2008 Hudson Fuggle calendar, which some of you might recall. Alan has a terrific exhibition celebrating 20 years of his latest letterpress work at Advanced Graphics London which is only a five minute walk away from the office – perfectly placed to fill a lunch hour.

The Hudson Fuggle calendar is becoming a bit of an institution, and this year we went back to basics. Armed with our thimbles and thread we headed down to Clapham to thePapered Parlour for a day of tea drinking, cake eating, and a spot of needlework.

Months of the year were drawn out of Ian’s fez hat and each member of the team was then tasked with capturing the essence of their given month using only fabric, needle and thread.

After the first round of tea and cake we set about trying to capture our characters by sketching them and thinking about how they could work as 3D objects.

After a mad rush to the fabric corner to choose our textiles and buttons, we sat down and started to make our creatures.

By the fifth round of tea and cake and with light fading fast there was a mad panic to get everyone’s characters finished.

They were then lovingly packed, ready for the next stage of their journey – the photoshoot, where it has to be said, they were perfect models and very professional!

Their grand unveiling will be in our 2010 calendar – currently at the printers – so you will be able to see each one soon.
